About Carrie

WHO AM I?

Welcome to to my blog! I launched this blog to follow my trials and successes as I trained to run a half marathon in 2013. I've now got four half marathons under my belt and I'm not stopping there! I'm 27 and a fairly new runner - my goal in 2012 was to run a 5K, which seemed lofty, considering that my first day of training was a combination run/walk (5 min run/3 min walk x4) that seemed nearly impossible. However, I got better and better, and ran my first 5K on May 17th, 2012.

RUNNING

I still struggle to call myself a runner because I'm not breaking records and flying through races - but I am finishing them! I try to run 2-3 times a week depending on what I'm up to. I'm currently not training for any races and it feels nice to breathe a bit!

YOGA

I took my first yoga class with my mom in 2002 at the age of 15 through our town recreation department. We went to the local elementary school music room for 6 weeks, and I didn't love it. It was a bunch of middle aged women and the school's junky piano would interfere with my postures. I gave yoga a rest until college, when I started dancing more seriously and wanted to build strength, flexibility and reduce stress and tension. I've continued my yoga practice consistently since then and try to attend 2-3 classes per week at the gym at work or local studios.

CROSS TRAINING

Sometimes I feel like a lover of cross training who runs when she has to! I'm currently very into spinning and circuit workouts as a way to train my body outside of running and yoga.

JAZZERCISE

Jazzercise ignited my passion for fitness. I attended my first Jazzercise class on a cold Sunday afternoon in November of 2004. I was a shy, 17 year old senior in high school who took a jazz dance class every week and wanted to try my hand at being fit. I haven't looked back since! I went consistently to Jazzercise 2 - 7 times a week for about 8 years. I've recently stopped Jazzercising for the time being - there just aren't enough hours in the day for all of my workout passions right now!

There I am in the Essex Memorial Day Parade in 2012, Jazzercising down the street!

WORK

I work as an Assistant Director of Admission at a medium size state university in my home state. I have wonderful colleagues and love the work that I do. It's not your typical 9-5 job and includes some traveling, weekends and evenings, but I love working with students to empower them to reach their goals. I'm also enrolled in a Master of Education program and am pursuing an Interdisciplinary M.Ed.

FUN

I love fitness (clearly!) and spend most of my free time attending classes and trying to be active. However, I also love reading, knitting, traveling, watching TV (The Biggest Loser, Parks & Recreation and Modern Family are in my current rotation, with The Office being my favorite show of all time), crocheting, eating (Vietnamese food is my FAVORITE!), cooking, skiing and spending time with my family and friends. I'm also quite partial to wine, my planner, lululemon, my iPhone and Broadway!
