yoga favorites

I love all of my workouts (if it's not fun, why do it?), but I absolutely LOVE yoga. I took an incredible Power Flow class on Friday, a wonderful free lululemon class on Saturday and a great hatha class last night. I leave the studio feeling lengthened, open and like life is flowing through me. It's an unbeatable feeling!

Here are a few of my favorite yoga postures.

Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward-Facing Dog)

Down dog is such a strong and positive pose for me - it allows me to melt my heart down towards the floor and open up my shoulders, send my sit bones up towards the sky and lengthen the backs of my legs into a deep stretch. When I first started practicing yoga, down dog was a definite challenge, but now I truly see it as an active resting pose. It's heavenly really.

High Lunge

I like high lunch because of the openness it encourages in the front of my hips.

Eka Pada Kapotasana (Pidgeon Pose)

Pidgeon has been one of my favorite poses since I started practicing yoga because of how it opens my hips. I love the surge of energy that I feel rushing through my hip as I release the asana...it's as if I unblock my hips each time I practice this pose.

Baddha Hasta Sirasana A (Bound Headstand)

I had this pose on my bucket list until I attended a "Fearless Inversions" workshop at a local studio. I mastered the pose and love incorporating it into my practice.

Ardha Matsyendrasana (Half Lord of the Fishes Pose)

I love twists, and this one wrings out my spine like no other!

Do you have a favorite yoga posture?
