I went on vacation with my family at the beginning of August, and being the race obsessed girl that I am, I looked for a race while we were there. I found the St. Peter's 4 Miler and decided to sign up because it was only $15.
The race was set to take place on Friday during our vacation, but I told my family that if it didn't work out, it was OK - I didn't want anyone changing their plans because of my addiction to running! Friday ended up being rainy and pretty miserable so we spend a lot of the day shopping and napping in our hotel room - so when 4:30 rolled around I was feeling cooped up and antsy. I told my family that they didn't have to come with me, but that I was going to go run the race!
They ended up coming with me and the rain cleared just in time - it ended up being a really beautiful evening! My sister decided not to run because she didn't want to pay and was being kind of a grouch, but after watching the adorable little kids race I was pretty pumped to run.
The course was absolutely gorgeous - we went through really nice city streets, got great views of the ocean and the city of Portland and had some nice spectator support through the course. I was feeling really good and knew I was going pretty fast so I just keep repeating "pain is temporary" especially as I got towards the end and saw a bit of a hill. I rounded the final corner and saw my family cheering for me, and as soon as the clock came into focus I saw that I was under 40 minutes...WOW!
I ended up with a final time of 38:30, which was a PR for me - 9:30 miles for 4 miles...not bad! I had a lot of fun and was glad to shake up our vacation a bit with this race.
