Pirate 5k

I got a Groupon-type deal for the 2014 version of a 5k last I ran last year called the "Pirate 5k." I enjoyed running it last year and figured I would run it again this year. Emily couldn't run because she was attending a wedding, so I thought I'd try for a PR.

I rode my bike from my apartment (about 2 miles) to the start of the race where I met my parents. I gave them my bag to hold and then took off for the start line. A man dressed as a pirate led the group in some pirate themed stretches and a few people made announcements before we got going. Because the race was themed and promoted as a run/walk, there were a lot of kids and race newbies. I started off at the back of the pack (as always) but pushed my way ahead of quite a few people during the first mile.

I didn't feel especially fast but thought I was doing pretty well - it was definitely warm and sunny. The race was pretty uneventful and I finished at 30:54 - not a PR and really not all that great of a time, but such is life!
