Labor Day 15k

On September 1st a local athletic association put on their first annual Labor Day 15k. My friend Becky let me know that she was running and after thinking about it for awhile I decided to sign up. I convinced Emily to sign up too!

A 15k boils down to be 9.3 miles, so I knew that we shouldn't have any problem doing it. Emily was a little less convinced because she hasn't continued running longer distances since the half, but we decided to take it slow and have fun!

It was a beautiful day, but was definitely hot. There was about 100 people running so we situated ourselves at the back of the pack and settled into a solid pace. I really enjoyed running this race - we were quite a lot slower than the closest person ahead of us, so we were able to just go our own pace and not worry about being too close to anyone. We ended up being decently faster than the people behind us, so we didn't have anyone on our tail at any point.

Getting refueled by Mom, Dad & Gu at mile 5!

Mom & Dad saw us around mile 1, 3 and 5, cheering for us and giving us cold water to fill our bottles at mile 5. I felt super strong the entire run and just had a great time enjoying the beauty around us. The volunteers were also great, cheering for us and directing traffic. When we were approaching the end my feet were starting to feel sore, but other than that I really felt that I could keep going. Emily and I crossed the finish line at 1:46:28 and headed to refuel with bagels and water!

Becky was last, crossing the finish line just before 2:00, and we all enjoyed the awards ceremony. All 3 of us ended up winning one of the raffles! I got a pint of maple syrup, Becky got a jar of local alfredo sauce and Emily won a week gym membership at my gym. We had a lot of fun and would definitely do this race again next year!

Looking good as we round the final corner!

Happy 15k finishers
